AbsolutePlayersClub Hand Selection in Limit Hold'em AbsolutePlayersClub

Have you ever thought about how many hands you play? The definition of playing a hand is contributing money to the pot of a particular hand. There are two ways to play a hand, by either being the blind, or calling the blind. If someone raises the big blind, and a player forfeits the blind, they still technically played the hand. In addition, if a player in the big blind folds before betting the hand, they still technically played the hand.

If there are 10 players at a table, one out of every 10 hands a player will be the big blind. In limit holdem, most winning players only play about 25 percent of the hands. Considering that 10 percent of the time, a player will likely see the flop for free, it is evident how most winning limit holdem players don't buy a lot of flops. In limit holdem, it is not a good idea. Therefore, selecting the hands you play in limit holdem is one of the most important aspects of the game, if not the most important. Still, some players will play more hands than others will, and they will still win because their skills in the later rounds of a hand are strong.

Choosing Your Hands in Limit Poker

There are many factors to consider when choosing what hand to play, so it's hard to pinpoint a set of rules. For example, how does the particular play at the table influence particular hands? Are players being aggressive? If so, maybe another player should play tighter. Also, if someone raised the pot, this could influence if a player decides to call the bet or not. A player's table image is also a factor when deciding what hands to play. Strategy is everything in poker, so it's hard to set anything in stone when so much depends on how a particular strategy is unfolding in the thick of the moment.

Position is Important

The position a player is sitting in can influence what hands to play. The further away a player is from the dealer, the more advisable it is for them to play hands that are not as strong. To wait, if a player is the last to bet, they have an advantage over the field because they see how the hand evolves betting wise. They can adjust accordingly and not fall into a betting trap.
